i was really bored on the bus, on my way home after landing in shanghai, because i didn’t have internet.

jetlag helped me wake up at 6. i was never awake at 6, so i took a walk when the sun was out. i was born here, in jiaxing, but i never actually knew it. so, starting from the hospital where i was born, i tried to walk every steet in a 200m radius. there was a christian church and a buddhist temple. i liked the smell of the incense.

breakfast shop/2024

i rediscovered a breakfast shop where I had the first fried dough stick of my life. it wasn’t as good as i remembered. the female owner is about the same age as i am. she has a boy who is probably around the same age i was when i had my first fried dough stick.


then, i went to my father’s home town. our apartment from childhood got torn down two years ago. i pierced through the construction fence and saw a deep foundation pit. new development plans for this site were hanging nearby. i wonder where they deposited the rubbles.

i snuck into what was once the tallest mall in sanmenxia. i found a fish tank on a dark floor.

we traveled a lot. before i left for beijing, we went to choose graves for my father and my grandparents. they were on a hill in a public cemetery. at first, they didn’t like the hill because it would be tiring for the living to climb, but in the end, they preferred the view.
